Our latest creations

The New Zealand Fairy Tern is the rarest endemic breeding bird in Aotearoa. Room 14 has been working on art work with a message to help protect them. Last week they donated them to Heather a representative from the Fairy Tern Charitable Trust. We hope they make a difference by showing people what they can do to look after these special birds.

They also left us these beautiful chocolates in appreciation of our work for their cause.

Room 7 want to draw attention to the fact that Technology Addiction is dominating the lives of young people. Their mural shows the contrast between two sides of the brain with and without technology. They also held a technology free week, where students gave up certain items of technology for a week.

Continuing on the topic of Technology Addiction, Room 8 capture their target audience with a sneaky strategy, by luring them in with a gaint TV screen. Upon closer inspection, potential technology addicts will be able to see how video game addiction could affect them mentally, physically, emotionally and socially.

Room 17 want to encourage young children to make healthy food choices, so they designed a food race, with characters such as Brocolli aka Lean Mean Running Machine taking out lead of the pack. they aim to educate others about healthy eating.

On Exhibit

Art Extension students have been working on producing an art work that reflects their own culture, with consideration to positive and negaticve space, through mixed media. Some of these works have recently been displayed in the Auckland Middle School Art Association Exhibition at MOTAT.

We went along to see the exhibition at MOTAT Aviation Display Hall.

Check out our art work!

Some of the projects students have created in Art so far this year...

Room 7 enlisted Minecraft style visuals to help spread the word about Melanoma and sun exposure through a Sun Safety Mural .

Room 20 students are tackling poaching through messgaes about how it eefects future generations of the species.

Room 9 aimed to show how rubbish effects our sea life by creating scultpures out of rubbish collected on a beach clean up near Kelly Tarltons.

Room 21 set out to find a way to encourage energy saving in our school. They have desined and created posters to fit around light switchs to remind people to turn the lights off to help slow global warming.

Signing our songs

Last Wednesday the H.I.S APPA Choir members went to East Tamaki School for their very first rehearsal this year in order to get prepared for the APPA Festival on November 12th. We had lots of fun learning songs, and did a great job singing with sign language for the song “Islands”, as seen below. Hope you enjoy it. Come to see us at the concert!
